Pat Willard traces the footsteps of the Works Progress Administration writers in their America Eats project to chronicle stories about local events around the country where food was served, "to celebrate the 'importance of social gatherings that glorify the non-professional cook and keep traditional cookery alive."' She includes original never before published accounts as well as her own experiences at gatherings-with-food across the nation.
